About

Commercial Marketing and Growth Leader

Most of my work over the past nine years has been commercial, building marketing functions from a standing start that hold budgets against actuals, report a return to the executive committee and shape which accounts the business pursues, which it protects and where the repeat revenue sits.

Brand and communications is the craft underneath that, carried across nine markets in South Africa, the United Kingdom and the SADC region, and it works because the research, the governance and the operating structure are in place before the creative begins.

What I Bring

"I notice the patterns that repeat across markets and sectors, and I build the structures that turn a strategy on paper into work a business can measure."

Ripples of Possibility

Campaign CreativeDonor CommunicationsBrand Strategy

This was a volunteer engagement I sought out deliberately because it brings together two things I care about, financial inclusion for people the mainstream leaves out and building for African audiences from a place of genuine understanding. I developed the Ripples of Possibility campaign for MicroLoan Foundation's strategic expansion into South Africa and designed the tiered stakeholder engagement model across corporate sponsors, philanthropists and diaspora leaders, using a circles-of-influence structure with corporate sponsors and philanthropists at the core and ambassadors and diaspora leaders amplifying outward. The matched-funding campaign I coordinated required urgency-driven communications hooked to tax-year-end and Women's Month, with donor messaging calibrated for the UK, Australia and South Africa simultaneously, three markets with different motivations and different relationships to the cause. I also built the partnership proposals that connected MicroLoan with Agenda Women and Momentum's SheOwnsHerSuccess platform. Donor trust is earned through transparency, cadence and institutional reliability, and I treated that as the operational discipline of the campaign. The role has also taken me through the funding side of a loan book properly, how it is described to the people funding it, how repayment behaviour and group dynamics affect what can be promised and how differently a corporate sponsor, a philanthropic funder and a diaspora giver each decide.
